BINUS Northumbria School of Design Welcomes Jakarta Fashion Week 2018

The Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2018 is in sight. The BINUS Northumbria School of Design (BNSD) has been preparing to attend that international event. It has assigned 12 top students to show their best works to be displayed in the JFW 2018. The BINUS Northumbria School of Design has participated in this grand event 5 times in a row to display the works of the students themselves.

Ratna Dewi Paramita, the Head of the Fashion Program of the BINUS Northumbria School of Design, said that the theme chosen this time was “Whispers of Wakatobi”. The main purpose is to extensively expose the beauty of Indonesia’s nature as well as the beauty of the fabric from various regions throughout Indonesia. The 12 selected students were divided into 6 groups with different themes. They had more than 10 months to arrange everything needed for the JFW 2018. “Whispers of Wakatobi” was selected as the theme to provide the selected students with a challenge to make Wakatobi woven fabric, which is a contemporary collection, into a collection that can be used directly or ready to wear. This theme was also chosen to specifically introduce the woven fabric that comes from Wakatobi island itself.

“One may wonder why the process takes so long. But the students have to do many details, such as mind mapping, deciding what materials to use, and visualizing what the theme will be like when it is applied to the mannequin. After that, the students have to see what the fabric will look like when it is worn directly by the model, because the model is a professional model. Then the students have to decide what color is appropriate to use. After that, if they are stuck, they can find inspiration through the journals and materials that they have,” said Ratna, at the BNSD Media Preview & Interview Road to JFW 2018, on Monday, 23 October 2017, at the BINUS fX Campus, Jakarta.

Here are the names of the groups and students that prepared their best works to be featured in the JFW 2018:

  1. Ako by Aliya Dhiachandra & Haedi Giovani
  2. Alamu by Anastasia Hartanto & Audrey Jane Tantono
  3. Ethos by Henisya Putri Alya Patra & Nelly Tan
  4. Juxtapōz by Jesslyn & Clara Pranata
  5. Kanda by Raphaela Natasha & Adisza Princess Kahanasti

The participation of BINUS Northumbria School of Design students at the JFW 2018 event is one of the learning tools of BINUS Northumbria School of Design students in the fashion industry world itself. It is hoped that the projects provided by the BINUS NORTHUMBRIA School of Design can help students to improve their skills before graduating from the BINUS Northumbria School of Design.

The fashion show conducted by the students of the BINUS Northumbria School of Design will be held on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017, at the Fashion Tent from 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM. Do not miss the chance to attend one of the largest international events this year and see the best works from the BINUS Northumbria School of Design.
