Sharing Knowledge in Fashion Industry and Beauty through School of GRAZIA

As a university that is committed to contributing to the fashion world through education, BINUS Northumbria School of Design (BNSD) holds various events to share more insights and knowledge with the students. Together with GRAZIA Indonesia that also has a similar goal of strengthening the fashion industry in Indonesia, the ‘School of GRAZIA’ was held on Wednesday, March 29, at BINUS fX campus, Jakarta.

The workshop presented three amazing speakers who shared their experience and knowledge with the audience – Tities Sapoetra (Fashion Director of Tities Sapoetra Official), Faustine Arthaputri (Creative Director of MILCAH), and Philips Kwok (professional makeup artist).

The workshop presented three amazing speakers who shared their experience and knowledge with the audience – Tities Sapoetra (Fashion Director of Tities Sapoetra Official), Faustine Arthaputri (Creative Director of MILCAH), and Philips Kwok (professional makeup artist).

The first speaker, Tities Sapoetra, shared his experience of when he started his education and business in the fashion industry. He said that it took a lot of sacrifices when he made that decision. Tities had to sell his own car and leave his current profession in the entertainment industry at that time.

However, he continued, those sacrifices all paid off. Thanks to Tities’ formidable determination and his wide networking, his business – Tities Sapoetra Official – is continuously developing. “Skills like drawing and fashion designing aren’t enough. The most important thing in starting business is networking,” he said.

In the following session, Faustine Arthaputri, the second speaker, shared a topic about how to market the products digitally. Faustine explained that digital marketing isn’t only about bringing out an online presence. Digital marketing takes further maintenance – connecting the online store with other platforms (such as Instagram), promotional activities through influencers, content planning, etc.

She also gave some tips on marketing fashion products digitally. The first one was finding a signature style and making it stand out. In this case, Faustine continued, originality is important. The second one was crafting the content. “The content needs to be suitable with the target market and emphasize the positive messages,” she explained.

The third speaker, Philips Kwok, presented the topic about how to apply makeup and also some common mistakes in applying them. He said that the face is like a canvas and there are some processes in beautifying it.

One important thing before applying makeup, he added, is keeping the skin healthy. Philips explained that whatever the highlighter is, the result will be better if the skin is healthy. “Beauty comes from the skin,” he said.

School of GRAZIA is a regular event that is held by GRAZIA Indonesia in partnership with fashion and modeling schools. Previously, GRAZIA Indonesia and BINUS Nortumbria School of Design also had held a similar workshop in 2016.

“Through the School of GRAZIA, we want to share knowledge and insights related to the fashion industry that may not be obtained in the classroom only,” said Tenik Hartono, the Chief Community Officer of GRAZIA Indonesia and the moderator in this workshop.
