The 3rd Port o’ Folio, an Exhibition of Students’ Creations by the Graphic Design and New Media Program of BINUS Northumbria School of Design
The Graphic Design and New Media (GDNM) Program of BINUS Northumbria School of Design (BNSD), in collaboration with the Student, Alumni, & Global Employability (SAGE) Center brought back the Port o’ Folio – a yearly event that is also an opportunity for the GDNM students to display their final assignments from the Portfolio Class to the public.
The Port o’ Folio 2017 event was held on 5-6 July 2017 at the BNSD fX Campus, fX Mall, 6th floor, Jakarta. This event that involved the Alumni Association of GDNM also conducted a sharing session and gathering with the alumni. One of the alumni that were present was Jasmine Hanny Surkatty – known as a comic artist and the creator of Komik Ga Jelas. In this event, Jasmine shared her knowledge and experiences in the “How to Break into the Comic Industry” workshop.
Andre Manggala, a GDNM alumnus who already established his own studio, Mutualist, also shared his studio’s works and working process in the alumni sharing session. Meanwhile, Yanti Sastrawan, the President of the GDNM Alumni Association, shared her experience as an alumnae from BNSD and how she went through the transition period to get the passion in her career.
There were 36 GDNM students who displayed their works in this year’s Port o’ Folio. Furthermore, Port o’ Folio 2017 also invited representatives from industries and several associations, such as Design Lab, Y&R, Ogilvy & Mather, Walt Disney Indonesia, and the Indonesian Graphic Design Association/Asosiasi Grafis Desain Indonesia (ADGI).
Through Port o’ Folio 2017, the students could gain confidence, be well-adapted to the exhibition preparation process, and also be directly connected to the industry experts. Previously, a GDNM student, Naomi Suzuki, was recruited as an intern at Walt Disney Indonesia through Port o’ Folio.
“We hope, through this event, the industry can be more familiar with the BNSD students’ works and the graduates can work at global companies or establish their own creative companies,” said Novi Dila Kana, the Head of the Graphic Design and New Media Program of BINUS Northumbria School of Design.
